Swimming Instruction with Carlisle Leisure Limited
When you enrol your child on one of our ‘Learn to Swim’ programmes you can be assured that our swimming instructors are A.S.A. qualified and are committed to ensuring your child progresses through the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming, (NPTS) as far as they wish to go.
Our Pools are committed to providing the continued development of children of all ages and abilities and the plan has been developed by the A.S.A. to provide a template for learn to swim schemes.
The NPTS is a comprehensive, integrated, progressive teaching programme based upon sound technical and educational principles. The NPTS aims to provide a degree of consistency throughout the country with regard to what we expect swimmers to do and how we expect them to do it.
THE MAIN AIMS OF SWIMMING DEVELOPMENT WITHIN CLL
- Developing a wide range of skills
- Emphasising the importance of initial orientation to water
- Developing high reliability through repetition, revision and consolidation
- Identifying the correct standards of skill performance
- Providing assessment against clearly identified outcomes
- Providing a direct link to A.S.A. awards scheme
Phases
The NPTS is made up of six phases. These are:
- Phase 1
- Non Swimmers
- Phase 2
- Beginners
- Phace 3

Once enrolled your child will be continually assessed during the lessons. On week seven you will be given an enrolment slip indicating the class to which he/she should re-enrol for the next block of lessons. On completion of phase 4 your child will have reached a standard to progress to other aquatic activities such as swimming club, synchronised swimming, water polo etc.
