Bitts Park hosts the City Tennis Programme, which aims to give everyone the opportunity to play tennis at an affordable price. This is led by the City Council Sport and Recreation team, with funding provided by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). The Carlisle City Tennis Partnership Group includes Carlisle City Council, Carlisle Leisure Limited, LTA and School Sports Partnership.
This year exciting additions have been made to the tennis programme to help both adults and children improve and enjoy tennis. Whether you are taking part because you enjoy it or because you have ambitions to make playing tennis a potential career, the programme will provide the necessary pathways for you.
Specifically for Juniors, Development Sessions are delivered under the guidance of LTA qualified coaches. They give junior players the chance to receive quality coaching, learn how to play matches or just come down and have fun. Academy Sessions are available for players who may have the potential to continue to higher levels. Sessions are organised for junior players aged 5 to 16 years for Mini Red, Mini Orange, Mini Green and Full Court Tennis. As an example, Mini Red sessions are held on smaller courts and players use smaller rackets and larger balls that bounce slower than a standard ball.
