Change4Life

Here at Carlisle Leisure Limited we are keen supporters of the Change4Life initiative.

Our Health and Fitness team are tasked with delivering numerous healthy lifestyle projects throughout Carlisle and Allerdale.

Our MEND scheme - Mind, Exercise, Nurition, Do it! has been very popular since its launch in 2007. This scheme educates the whole family in healthy diet, nutrition and exercise and we have seen some incredible results. Children between the age of 7 and 12 enrol with us on a 10 week programme

The programme is an active, fun-based programme to improve health, fitness and wellbeing. Places on the programme are offered completely free of charge to participating families.

The 10-week programme, which involves the whole family, has been developed by experts at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Institute of Child Health to help kids become healthier, fitter and more self-confident. Supervised by qualified MEND trainers, it aims to improve the entire family’s eating and exercise habits.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer, and activities include games, nutrition sessions, a supermarket tour, a recipe-tasting evening and fun group activities.

Eesearch has proved that the MEND Programme has impressive, lasting results. An important study unveiled last week showed that a full 12 months after completing the programme, children had lost weight, were fitter and were doing more sports as well as feeling more confident.

We are now recruiting for our January programmes operating at Trinity Leisure Centre in Carlisle, Workington Leisure Centre and Netherhall Community Sports Centre in Maryport.

Families interested in signing up for the MEND Programme should contact Alan Quayle on 01228 625889 or register via the web site www.mendprogramme.org
