NEW! Cardio Tennis comes to Bitts Park thanks to funding from the Sport England Small Grants Fund A brand new tennis concept comes to Aimed at increasing the participation of adults in tennis, the twice weekly sessions will take place initially in the tennis airdome under the guidance of the City Council’s LTA qualified coaches. The new programme is a partnership between Carlisle City Council and Carlisle Leisure Limited, who manage the facility on the council’s behalf. Nick Holland, Development Officer for Carlisle Leisure Limited says: “The main purpose of the sessions is to provide participants with an enjoyable work out. It’s not about forehands and backhands, it’s about getting into your appropriate cardio zone and getting a great workout. Music is played during the session to help create a high energy atmosphere and add motivation. The sessions are perfect for adults who want to try something new or those who have always wanted to try tennis out and have never had the opportunity. Participants are advised to wear heart rate monitors so they can see if they are working hard enough or too hard!” Cardio Tennis has been made possible thanks to a successful funding bid to Sport England’s Small Grants Fund. The 17-week programme will be subsidised and cost just £2 per person. The grant has also enabled the purchase of new balls, rackets and heart monitors for the programme. The first session takes place on Tuesday, 20 April at Bitts Park Tennis Centre between 7pm and 8pm. Sessions will run every Tuesday and will also be held on Thursdays between 10am and 11am throughout the summer. For further information about the event or to book onto any of the sessions available on the day please contact Nick Holland on 01228 625543. |
